**Special Blog Post by Ms. Maryl**
It was fun this morning to hear about everyone's 4th of July adventures. But now there's just one day left! I'm looking forward to seeing you present your work tomorrow at the Tuesday Open House (from 1:30-2:30pm). Your continued work today on your publicity materials should get you close to finished, so you will be ready for tomorrow. Remember – if you need extra time, you can work on it tonight. Think about who your target audience is, what type of information might be useful to them, and what your core message is. I hope you can share these publicity materials online!
I was impressed today with the way that you all critiqued the propaganda posters that Mr. Paul showed you. This seems so similar to the way that you are all critiquing websites and advertisements. I hope that you continue to look critically at all of the media around you – on the radio, in movies, video games, television, signs, and anything else you read.
Our Skype meeting today with Mr. Grover, a Wayne State University sophomore and poet, was interesting to me. I had never thought about writing a poem about a piece of technology! I’d love to hear what you wrote. He talked about thinking about the perspective of who you are writing about and trying to tell a story in your poem (which didn’t have to rhyme ;-). If you are interested in checking out the poetry program that Mr. Grover attended when he was younger, it was called Inside Out. Click here to read more: http://insideoutdetroit.org/.
I finished reading Gathering Blue over the weekend right after I got Mr. Paul’s email. Did you? I admit, I had been a couple of chapters behind everyone but decided to catch up so that I knew what was going on during the discussion today. If you are enjoying it, Lois Lowry has written many other books. Check out her website: http://www.loislowry.com/ to see what else she has written. Gathering Blue is part of her Quartet Series – and there are 3 other books related to Gathering Blue, as a sort of series.
Thanks for letting me be a part of this camp and sharing all of your ideas and what you are learning with me. I appreciate and learn from you as well! See you tomorrow for our last day!
